OUR SCHOOL WIDE IMPLEMENTATION GOALS
Our goal is to
use the "The Zones of Regulation" resource by Leah Kuypers, to foster a school community that uses a
common language, understanding and strategies when supporting self-regulation
within the school community. As the adults in the building we will use the
zones language to discuss, model and teach the skills of self-regulation.
We are asking all teachers to teacher the first 3 lesson of “Zones” before the end of September. These lessons focus simply on learning and understanding what the Zones are and where emotions/feeling/actions fit in to the Zones.
As the year progresses we will continue to work through the lessons within the Zones book and continue to explore Self-Regulation. This journey will be a gradual process, you are not expected to be experts, we will learn together as a school community and adjust the lessons to suit the needs of our school.
Through the process we will combine the theory and strategies from both "The Zones of Regulation" and "Calm Alert and Learning" by Stuart Shanker. There are many ways to embed the lessons throughout the year into the curriculum expectations and as a staff we will look at ways to make this process less of an “add on” and more of a natural part of what we do.
